About the Facilities

The facilities at Burnthill Retreat have been described as
'rustic luxury'!

  • The cabin is simply furnished. There is a full size bed and dresser in the loft for sleeping. A limited selection of linens and bedding are available. There is a dining table and chairs, pantry cabinet, and small love-seat that folds out into a single bed to sleep one guest.
  • The cabin is equipped with overhead lights and electrical outlets. It has a phone line (local only) and DSL service (for longer stays or with advanced notice).
  • Cooking takes place in an enclosed porch. There is a propane stove, a small wooden work counter and a small sink with hot and cold water. Basic dishes, glasses, silverware and pans are provided. There is a mini refrigerator and a small microwave.
  • There is a wood burning stove for heat which makes the cabin warm and cozy. This stove is also great for slow cooking in a cast iron pan! In the winter, an electric baseboard heater is available.
  • A clean, comfortable outhouse is just up a path next to an open air shower building. The shower has hot water and a radiant propane heater to dry and dress by. This makes showering in the cool weather invigorating yet possible!
  • An open air shelter is provided for additional sleeping space or work space upon request. This is primarily usable in the summer months only. (Please see hosts for details.)

Artist Retreat

  • Burnthill is ideal for artists, writers and composers or anyone wanting to concentrate on their work in relative seclusion. While the facilities are rustic and small, Burnthill offers quietude and the idea of getting back to 'basics'.
  • Amenities such as supplies and materials, postal services, digital services, groceries, etc, are located in nearby Sequim, WA, just a short drive from the cabin at Burnthill.
  • At this time, space is limited to working out-of-doors, in the cabin or in the open air shelter. Artists must provide their own tools and supplies. A small shed is available for storage while on premises.
  • Burnthill is now pleased to have a propane operated kiln! We are outfitted for simple pottery production under an open air sheltered studio. (more information coming soon!)
  • Burnthill Retreat is a short commute to Seattle (2 1/2 hours including ferry). This allows residents to travel to and from for professional endeavors or just to do some sight seeing! In addition to Seattle, the Olympic Peninsula has many local artists and musicians. Port Townsend is nearby home to Copper Canyon Press and the Centrum Residency program.
